Amaryllis Update and Some Others

By now, my amaryllis has finally bloomed. FINALLY. But you can’t see it, because during the week I go to work when it’s dark out and I get home when it’s dark out and that doesn’t make for very good pictures. So these are pictures I took on Sunday afternoon as the sun was setting. I HAD thought that the darned thing would bloom in time for Christmas.

Amaryllis Update 3

But nope.

Amaryllis Update 2

Then I thought it’d show up around New Year’s.

Amaryllis Update 1

Nope again. Instead it makes its appearance on a Wednesday when there’s nobody around to see it. Typical.

Amaryllis Update 4

Other updates for you: we take possession of our house in EIGHT DAYS. Packing is progressing in a haphazard fashion. It’s hard to put stuff in boxes when there’s no place to put the boxes. I cannot wait to be out of this cramped space!

Amaryllis Update 5

We’d meant to be proactive and get lots of stuff done while our offices were closed between Christmas and New Year’s but instead we both managed to get horribly ill and we’re still not fully recovered, so needless to say that didn’t happen. But I’d like to share with you the chaos that is my living room at the moment, post-Christmas, mid-packing, and post-holiday cold:

Amaryllis Update 6
The corgi, overwhelmed with Christmas and packing, also managed to make himself quite ill. All in all, it was a joyously relaxing vacation.

And one other thing that I feel I should probably let you in on: like some other women I know I have recently developed that peculiar condition where over the course of nine months you lose the ability to see your own feet. This is also another explanation for why my posts have been a little on the lacklustre side since September because holy moly I AM TIRED.

Amaryllis Update 7
So long, feet.

So some time in early June things are going to get a lot more interesting in our new house (and yes, that’s one of the reasons we bought the place).  I’m not sure exactly what this whole adventure means for the future of Ali Does It but we can all figure that out together, right? Stay tuned as the chaos only continues to increase, along with my waistline!

A corgi. A small boy. A sense of adventure. Chaos ensues.

  1. AHHH! I am so excited for you! I too am losing view of my feet for the first time, though I should re-gain a view of them in mid-April. Ali does it, baby style would be sooooo nice. Congratulations to you and the Pie! I hope you’re all settled in and loving the house for a bit before the new one joins you. Gren will make an excellent watchdog for his new human.

  2. Thrilled for you and the Pie Alicat! Felicitations and all that jazz! Where abouts is your new home? You will definitely have to come up with a subtitle for your blog as I know you are going to come up with some terrific stuff to share with your fans.

  3. Oh my gosh!! I have two of these in my house too!! Got one as a gift and one from Home Depot!! I use mine as a living center piece!! Can’t wait to figure out how to decorate the pots more. 😛

    1. Emily, I thought we were still talking about babies when I read your comment, with hilarious results!!! I’m still laughing! One as a gift and one from Home Depot? — so much easier than that whole tedious 9-month thing, I must admit — but I really was shocked about the living centrepiece idea, and then I read about Ali’s parents putting them in giant pots that won’t tip over when they get too tall. Apparently I’m just an old-fashioned fuddy-duddy and this brave new world is passing me by …
Ali, so happy for you (and your husband and your Mom and Dad)! All best wishes!

  4. Amyrillis are fickle! I’m not a fan, actually.
My best friend Socks (I chronicled her first pregnancy on the blog, from a distance) is cooking up kid no. 3 and is just shy of 5 months along. We have a weekly phone call – and she had me crying laughing yesterday. I think you might appreciate this:
The time has come when the lady bits are sliding beyond the horizon. “See you girls on the other side!”
We promptly named the belly view you shared above ‘the event horizon.’ And giggled like children:)

    1. Haha oh man I am so using that one.

Funny you should mention their fickleness: only one day past full bloom and already the petals are curling a bit. At least it’ll give me an excuse to chuck it before we move.
